Over the past twenty-five years, Ted has assisted companies in mergers, sales, divestitures, acquisitions, select capital raises, fairness opinions and valuations. Ted has also advised Board of Directors, senior executives and company owners on issues pertaining to shareholder liquidity and maximizing/improving shareholder value. Mr. Werner has extensive experience advising private and public companies and has negotiated numerous transactions, assisted in detailed due diligence, conducted fairness opinions and provided litigation support pertaining to equity value. Ted participates in several aerospace, defense and industrial trade organizations and often presents at various industry conferences. Ted is also co-head of PB&W’s Aerospace and Defense Group and has worked with numerous companies in commercial, general aviation and defense technology market segments. Mr. Werner also oversees the Company’s industrial, medical and communications transaction teams. Throughout his career, he has advised on over 50 M&A transactions and over 150 equity valuations. Ted was formally a member of the MBA Advisory Board for the John A. Walker College of Business at Appalachian State University and was on the Advisory Board of National Technical Systems, Inc. He graduated from The Military College of Vermont – Norwich University in Northfield, Vermont and received his Master of Business Administration degree from the John A. Walker College of Business at Appalachian State University. Mr. Werner also completed the Executive Program on Negotiation at MIT/Harvard, is a Registered Representative with FINRA and has obtained his Series 24, 99, 79 and 63 licenses. Ted is married, has four children and resides north of Boston.
Nick Berry has been an investment banker for nearly 20 years and is integrally involved in all aspects of PB&W’s investment banking services. Nick has served as a trusted advisor to Boards of Directors and management teams of corporations pursuing sell-side and buy-side M&A, fairness opinions and corporate valuations. Nick has experience in numerous market sectors including aerospace (commercial, business jet and general aviation), defense (electronics, ISR, systems, components, hardware, software, etc), industrial (components, controls, electromechanical, electronics, systems, etc.), government services (ISR, software, engineering services, IT & technical support), commercial (consumer packaged goods, logistics, agriculture) and healthcare. Nick leads co-heads PB&W’s Aerospace, Defense and Government Services practice and is highly knowledgeable in defense procurement, budgets and industry trends. He has advised on over 40 merger and acquisition transactions over his career. He also provides litigation support to major law firms on issues related to mergers, acquisitions and buyouts of shareholders. Nick is a Magna Cum Laude graduate of Appalachian State University and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance & Banking from the John A. Walker College of Business. Nick resides in a suburb of Charlotte, has been married to his wife Debi since 2004, and has three children.

Matthew Carpenter is a Managing Director at Philpott Ball & Werner (“PB&W”) and advises corporate clients, boards of directors and senior management teams in the Industrial Controls / Process Automation (“ICPA”) and healthcare markets in mergers, acquisitions, company sales, divestitures, fairness opinions, valuations, corporate strategy and other matters pertaining to shareholder value and corporate securities. Within the ICPA segment, Mr. Carpenter has executed numerous M&A transactions and advisory assignments with companies spanning the sector, to include manufacturers of valves, actuators, pumps, motors, flow meters, instrumentation and engineered packaged process systems. In healthcare, he leads the PB&W healthcare advisory practice and has advised healthcare clients on security transactions and hundreds of valuation and advisory assignments.
Mr. Carpenter led the development of the PB&W proprietary internal databases of corporate, valuation, financial, contract, pricing and other related information as well as proprietary techniques for determining the fair market value of equity interests, contracts and the pricing of contracts in the healthcare industry. He also provides litigation financial advisory services on behalf of both defendants and plaintiffs for major law firms and client companies. Mr. Carpenter graduated from Appalachian State University and holds Bachelor of Science degrees in Finance & Banking and Risk Management & Insurance from the John A. Walker College of Business. He is a FINRA Registered Representative holding series 79 and 63 securities licenses and is also an Accredited Senior Appraiser in business valuation with the American Society of Appraisers.
Luke Korta is a Managing Director at Philpott Ball & Werner (PB&W), an investment bank providing transaction advisory services for middle market companies and private equity groups in the aerospace, defense and industrial markets. Luke joined PB&W as an Analyst in 2007. He now co-leads the firm’s commercial aerospace, business and jet and general aviation practice with a focus on companies providing aircraft component and system design, engineering, manufacturing, maintenance repair and overhaul (MRO) and distribution. Luke is responsible for the origination, management and execution of strategic transactions, including company sales, corporate divestitures and acquisitions. Clients advised by Luke range from large publicly traded corporations and founder/family-owned businesses to private equity groups. In addition to transaction advisory services, Luke has completed numerous strategic analyses, fairness opinions and corporate valuations.
Through a focus on target end markets, Luke maintains relationships with a large network of key decision makers at leading companies and private equity groups. He is a speaker at aerospace industry conferences and is a regular attendee of industry tradeshows. Luke is a longstanding member of the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA), Helicopter Association International (HAI) and the Association for Corporate Growth (ACG) trade associations.
He is a Registered Investment Banking Representative and maintains applicable industry and state security licenses. Prior to joining PB&W, Luke was employed by a large multi-national brokerage firm. He graduated from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and Economics.
Erik Appareti is a Vice President at Philpott Ball & Werner and assists or leads in all aspects of the merger and acquisition (M&A) process. He supports numerous functions including business development, business and industry research, financial statement analysis, due diligence and negotiations. Erik works with both privately held (founder/owner led and private equity sponsored companies) and publicly traded aerospace, defense, government services and industrial companies. Erik specializes in a number of areas within the aerospace and defense industry, to include A&D electronics technology, unmanned aerial systems (UAS), space and satellites, defense signals intelligence, communications and software. He is a member of the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI) and the Association of the United States Army (AUSA).
Erik has been with Philpott Ball & Werner since 2010 and is a FINRA Registered Representative. He holds his Series 79 and 63 licenses. He graduated from the Daniel’s College of Business at the University of Denver with a degree in Corporate Finance. He lives in the greater-Boston area and is an enthusiastic cyclist and skier.
Mr. Kuchenbecker joined PB&W in 2014. He is responsible for identifying and originating client assignment opportunities and supporting merger, acquisition, divestiture, fairness opinions, corporate valuation and strategic advisory processes. Bret works with both privately held and publicly traded Aerospace, Defense and Industrial companies and is active throughout the entire merger and acquisition process, including detailed due diligence and negotiation. Mr. Kuchenbecker focuses on several end market verticals, including fixed-wing aircraft, rotorcraft, turbine engines, structures and interiors, surface and subsea Naval platforms, C4ISR and SIGINT, and precision industrial manufacturing.
Bret graduated Magna Cum Laude from Bentley University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics-Finance and Global Perspectives, and holds the Series 79 and 63 licenses.
Marilyn Haley is the Director of Operations. Marilyn has held various positions including Employee Liaison, Human Resources Manager and Office Manager. Before joining Philpott Ball & Werner in 2004, Marilyn was at PricewaterhouseCoopers for 9 years.
She specializes in organizing office operations to ensure effectiveness while maximizing cost efficiencies. Specific responsibilities include accounting, billing, payroll management and purchasing. Marilyn also works closely with the Managing Directors and Officers to ensure that the Firm’s operations and internal controls are effective and efficient.
